Basic UAS Design
Project type
UAS
Date
Winter 2025
Location
Missouri
For one of my high school CAD projects, I elected to model a single-prop airplane to show what I'd learned in SolidWorks. I ended up with very basic model that definitely wouldn't hold up to many standards.
I forgot about the project until I got a 3D printer in mid-2025 and a hobbyist license for SolidWorks, when I wanted to make whatever came to my head. I wanted to eventually create my own unmanned aerial system (UAS) and deviated to quadcopters to learn more about the electronic side of UAS's.
I reignited this project to build a basis of a very simple design that could easily be 3D printed in minimal build plates, was light enough to carry out long range flights, and could be fitted with different camera systems, including LiDAR. This parallels similar projects that a lot of other UAS companies and UAS pioneers seem to have taken on in the last couple years.
I called this "UAS-1" with the intention that I would build a foundation for my UAS designs that I could evolve into a more robust craft.
